A Message from 7th Div. LMPD Major McKinley: Preventing Auto Theft

Auto Theft in the 7th Division has gone up the past couple weeks. This time of year we usually see an increase in auto thefts due to people leaving their cars running in the colder weather. It appears this is starting back up, and I want to make sure we are getting the message out to prevent these crimes from occurring. While it is tempting to warm up our cars on a cold morning or run into the gas station really quick while leaving the car running, these opportunities are quickly capitalized on by those looking for cars to steal. We are currently organizing some details in the 7th to address these issues, but the officers can’t be everywhere and need help getting the message out. Our 3 main messages to get out would be:

  1. DO NOT leave running cars unattended!
  2. LOCK your doors.
  3. REMOVE keys and valuables from your cars.

Thank you all for your support and assistance in keeping our neighborhoods safe!

Coyotes

Today (May 27) a neighbor saw a coyote trot up Baumler Place in the 11300 block and cut through 11313 and 11311. One was reported last July on Herring Court. Coyotes are everywhere around us and they are predators. Be cautious with small pets and children especially at dusk and overnight through dawn!
